Greater Polk Rehab, Speech Therapy
Speech Language Pathogist: Seeking Florida state licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with CCC to work Contract/PRN or part-time in acute care setting;
Our founder, Dot Griffin Kirkland, began her career as a speech and language pathologist working at CSI Pediatric Rehab in 1987. Seeking a broader clinical base, she moved to an employment setting with a medical model in Wauchula, Florida where she initiated and developed the speech and language pathology department at the local hospital as well as outpatient department. In 1991, Dot advanced to a supervisory position working for RehabWorks, Inc. as an Area Manager overseeing several Rehab departments in the Lakeland area.
Following corporate mergers and frequent changes within the skilled nursing industry, Dot returned to Winter Haven in 1994 and accepted an Administrative position working with pediatrics supervising physical, occupational and speech language therapists as well as sharing responsibility for a variety of business functions.
She has recently returned her focus to acute care work in the local hospitals providing the day to day services required for the Speech Pathology departments.
Speech-language pathologists (sometimes called speech therapists) assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent communication and swallowing disorders in patients. Speech, language, and swallowing disorders result from a variety of causes, such as a stroke, brain injury, hearing loss, developmental delay, a cleft palate, cerebral palsy, or emotional problems.
Therapists treat both pediatrics and adults depending on the setting.
Greater Polk County Rehab currently serves local acute care hospitals for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Other sites of potential service are skilled nursing centers, home health services or outpatient therapy centers.
